My second day in Siem Reap was much more casual and relaxed. I was still jet-lagged from my flight, and waking up at 4:30 didn't help. After my brief visit to the monuments, I spent most of my time sleeping yesterday. The most impressive ruins in Siem Reap are Bayon Temple, Angkor Wat, and Ta Phrom. Those were the film locations of Tomb Raider.

I didn't hire a guide this time; I just spent most of my time exploring the monuments and mostly just reflecting. My impression of Cambodia was mixed. Angkor Wat was off-limits to foreign visitors for many years because of its turbulent political history. They are just now slowly trying to rebuild the country, and with the help of UNESCO, Siem Reap is becoming a popular tourist destination. I encountered several vendors with no limbs trying to sell books at the ruins and little kids trying to sell trinkets.

I hired a tuk-tuk driver all day and was able to negotiate a fair price of $13, which included bottled water. He took me back to all the temples, and I was able to take a lot of impressive pictures.

Angkor Watt provides fantastic photographic opportunities. The ruins and the surrounding jungle offer limitless textural and lighting opportunities for composing the perfect image.

After a full day of exploring the ruins, I decided to go to the famous pub street and street market. There are lots of restaurants and places to eat here. It's best to come here at night. It's easier to find places because of all the lighted signs.
