Naples, the vibrant heart of Italy’s Campania region, is a city rich in culture, history, and mouthwatering cuisine. If you find yourself with just 24 hours to explore this fascinating city, you can indulge in authentic Italian dishes and discover the hidden wonders beneath its bustling streets. Here’s a guide to make the most of your day, focusing on two key experiences: your journey through Underground Naples and a delightful dining experience in the Chiaia district.
Arrival and Underground Naples Tour
My flight was scheduled to arrive at 10 AM, and with my efficient planning, I booked a tour for 12 PM on TripAdvisor to explore the enchanting Underground Naples (Napoli Sotterranea). Thankfully, my flight landed at 9:30 AM, giving me plenty of time to catch a taxi to my tour. You can book your reservation here.
As you prepare for your arrival, be aware that taxi drivers in Naples can sometimes take advantage of tourists by doubling the fare. To avoid this issue, it’s best to have Uber downloaded on your phone. This way, you’ll know the exact fare of your ride and can sidestep any potential scams. Plus, it’s better if you link your Bonvoy credit card to Uber. You can earn Marriott Bonvoy points on Uber rides and food deliveries by linking your Marriott Bonvoy and Uber accounts. For Uber rides, you'll earn 3 points per dollar spent on Uber Premium rides.
Once I arrived at the entrance of the underground tour, I slipped into the remarkable underworld of Naples. This guided experience takes you through ancient aqueducts, hidden chambers, and remnants of long-lost historical sites. As you walk through the tunnels, you’ll uncover the rich history and resilience of the city. The tour typically lasts around 1.5 to 2 hours and is an eye-opening dive into the subterranean life of Naples.
"Great walking shoes are essential for this tour.
Afternoon: Exploring Chiaia District and Dining
After emerging from the depths of Underground Naples, I found myself in the lovely Chiaia district. This vibrant area is teeming with restaurants, shops, and boutiques that sell a variety of goods, including souvenirs, clothing, and local knick-knacks.
During my exploration, I stumbled upon a hidden gem called Sette Passi A Chiaia, where I indulged in delicious Italian dishes crafted with fresh local ingredients. The charming ambiance and attentive service made my culinary experience even more enjoyable.

Hotel Stays
If you’re a Hilton Honors member, make sure to treat yourself at De Bonart part of the Curio Hilton Collection. They have a rooftop there! This beautiful hotel offers amazing views over the city and the bay, and if you stay at the hotel, you might be lucky enough to get a room with a balcony that showcases the stunning scenery. Waking up to panoramic views of Naples was one of the highlights of my visit, and breakfast at De Bonart while soaking in the breathtaking views was simply magical.
If you're not completely full after your meal, take a leisurely stroll down Spaccanapoli, a lively street that cuts across the heart of the city. Here, you can savor local street food delights like pizza a portafoglio or fried pizza while soaking in the vibrant sights and sounds of Naples.

Conclusion: A Day to Remember
Spending a day in Naples offers a perfect blend of adventure and culinary delights. From exploring the fascinating underground marvels to indulging in delightful dishes in the Chiaia district, you’ll leave with lasting memories of this incredible city. As your day wraps up, don’t forget to take a moment to appreciate the stunning views of the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius, completing your unforgettable journey through this timeless Italian city.
